 | This spring, I graduated from Cornell University, where I majored in biology
with a concentration in genetics. During my time there, I aimed to identify
sequences sufficient for function of the imprinted gene Rasgrf1 in mice.
Over a summer, at an upstate agricultural center, I worked to identify genes
responsible for virus resistance in beans. Another summer was spent at the
Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where I performed screens in yeast to
determine genes involved in the pathway of a rare anemia called Diamond-Blackfan
Anemia. I hope to add to my background while at Columbia by gaining a better
understanding of epigenetics, although I am open to expanding my experience to
other areas as well.
I love to play the flute, work out, eat chocolate, and
have drawn-out debates about anything from fashion to religion. After spending
most of my life in small towns - before attending Cornell in Ithaca, I grew up
in an even smaller upstate town - I am very new to the city and its culture. I
look forward to checking out as many restaurants, concerts, and museums as I can
while I'm here.
