Besides my four years in St. Louis, Missouri, I have spent my whole life in Manhattan. I love the city for all the culture and excitement it has to offer at such a short distance, although some day I could picture my future self living closer to nature. I have a passion for games and grew up playing a lot of cards. I also grew up reading a lot of fantasy and sci-fi books, and I really enjoy discovering that same sort of magic in science.

My experiences with biological research began the summer of my Freshman year in a small, clinical immunohistochemistry lab. Since then I have worked in neuroanatomy, neurodevelopment, and stem cell biology. Currently my heart lies in cellular biology, and neurons are my favorite cells. I am fascinated by the underlying networks and functions that constitute a cell’s identity, and I would especially love to research how differences in these features can determine a cell’s fate, whether it be the subtype of a neuronal subtype or the difference between a healthy, replicating cell and a cancerous one.

In my free time I love to read, listen to music, and hang out with friends. I like being active and am always looking for fun new ways to stay in shape. I also enjoy exploring the city and discovering new exhibits, parks, bars, and restaurants. I am very excited to be spending the next five years (at least!) at Columbia. I love learning and am thrilled to be joining a community that is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. I really look forward to meeting everyone soon and to start sharing ideas and perspectives with my future classmates!
