 | After living in New Jersey for 18 years, I went to college at Stanford University, and yes, I am happy to be back on the east coast. I earned a bachelor's degree in biology and worked in a lab using butterflies to study molecular evolutionary processes. I completed an independent honors thesis focused on evolutionary change at regulatory loci in which I explored the relationship between a polymorphic enzyme and variation in the genes controlling its expression. I was also a captain of the Stanford Lightweight crew team before leaving organized athletics in my junior year, as well as a diligent student of the bay-area lifestyle. Some of my interests include yoga, running, trying new foods and loud music, and I am happy that New York has lots to offer for all of these things.
I am fascinated by the ways in which raw chemical information is interpreted and transformed into living systems. While at Columbia I plan to study gene regulation and hopefully integrate mechanistic physical understanding of the genome with logic and creativity. I am also interested in philosophy and biology, and really excited to learn more about neural science while here. |
