I was born in China, but have also lived in England, Australia, Canada, and finally settled in Madison, WI. I graduated with a BS from MIT in the class of 2010. Before Columbia, I have worked in a couple labs with different biological focuses, including virology, bioengineering, and biomaterials. My most recent lab experience is in Mriganka Sur’s neuroscience lab, where I worked on foundations for targeting treatment areas in the brain using neuronal photostimulation. By introducing the light-stimulated membrane channel protein, channelrhodopsin, into mice neurons, I optically stimulated the neurons to fire action potentials. Alternatively, with the protein halorhodopsin, I could photostimulate the neurons to inhibit a continually firing neuron. At Columbia, I’m hoping to explore a few disease-related areas of biology with a focus on cellular signaling and pathways.

I love large cities like New York and everything it has to offer, from exotic cuisines to endless Broadway shows. I also love shopping, cooking, ice skating, and reading about random statistics in the news. Furthermore, having moved around quite a bit as a child, I really enjoy road trips, traveling, and exploring new places, which there is no shortage of in NYC. I'm excited to see what the city and Columbia has to offer in the coming years.
